You walk into what feels like a financial cathedral – this former bank's grand Georgian interior makes it arguably the most beautiful Wetherspoons in Britain. The soaring ceilings, marble columns, and ornate plasterwork create an almost absurd contrast with the chain's usual carpet-and-screen aesthetic, but somehow it works brilliantly. The usual Spoons formula applies: proper ales at unbeatable prices, decent fish and chips, and breakfast served until afternoon. But drinking a pint of Doom Bar surrounded by such architectural grandeur feels oddly dignified. The vast space means you can usually find a table, even when the rest of Corn Street's bars are rammed, and the people-watching from the tall windows overlooking Bristol's financial quarter is top-tier entertainment.
