You descend into what feels like Manchester's most committed tribute to all things dark and heavy, where the décor leans hard into the gothic aesthetic and nobody's pretending to be anything they're not. The sound system here is genuinely excellent – they know their clientele takes their music seriously, whether it's black metal, hardcore punk, or industrial noise that's shaking the walls. The crowd skews properly alternative, from seasoned metalheads to students discovering their first taste of the underground scene. You'll find yourself squeezed into intimate spaces where conversations happen in shouted fragments between tracks, and the bar staff know exactly what they're pouring. It's the kind of place where you either absolutely get it or you absolutely don't – and that's precisely the point.
