You'll spot this place immediately by the jungle of hanging plants cascading from the ceiling and trailing down the windows. The Botanist has taken over a prime spot in Charter Square, and whilst it's part of a chain, they've done a decent job of making it feel less corporate with all that greenery and industrial-chic fixtures. The menu leans heavily into elevated pub grub – think beer-battered fish with proper mushy peas, braised lamb shoulder, and their signature hanging kebabs that arrive looking like something from a botanical experiment. The cocktails are where they really show off, with theatrical serves involving smoking cloches and garnishes that look like they've been foraged from Graves Park. It's pricier than your average city centre spot, but the portions are generous and the service is solid. Perfect for when you want somewhere that feels a bit special without being stuffy.
