You'll find this particular Wetherspoons housed in what used to be a rather impressive Victorian commercial building right in the heart of Sunniside. The high ceilings and original features give it more character than your average chain pub, and the location on Fawcett Street makes it a proper focal point for the area. Say what you want about Spoons, but they've got the formula sorted here. The all-day breakfast is genuinely decent - proper bacon, not the watery stuff - and at under a fiver with a coffee, it's hard to argue with the value. The beer selection covers all the usual suspects plus a rotating guest ale that's usually drinkable. Staff move quickly during the lunch rush, which they need to given how busy it gets with shoppers and office workers from the nearby council buildings.
