Old Albion

You head down Church Road in Hove and find yourself in a pub that feels like it's been there forever, which it basically has. The Old Albion has that rare quality of being neither trying too hard nor phoning it in: dark wood, proper bar, the kind of place where regulars have their usual spots and newcomers don't feel out of place. The menu does proper pub food done right—pies that taste homemade, fish and chips that justify their existence, the sort of dishes you actually want to eat with a pint rather than tolerate.
