A proper café tucked inside a medieval church, serving excellent coffee and lunch in the most unexpected spiritual setting.

You'll find yourself pushing through the heavy wooden doors of St Michael's Church on Trinity Street and suddenly you're not in a pew—you're in one of Cambridge's most atmospheric cafés. Michaelhouse occupies the church's lower level, where vaulted ceilings and stone walls create an almost reverent calm whilst you're queuing for coffee. The lunch menu leans towards proper food: soups, salads, and sandwiches that don't feel like afterthoughts, all reasonably priced for this part of town. It's the kind of place where tourists and locals genuinely mix, where you can spend two hours reading without guilt, and where the coffee is actually worth the £3-4 you're paying for it.
