Town and Gown

You'll find Town and Gown wedged into one of Cambridge's most characterful alleyways, just off the Market Square bustle where the tourists thin out slightly. It's the sort of place where you can nurse a pint of McMullen's and actually have a conversation without shouting—rare enough in this city. The food takes itself seriously enough to be genuinely good (think proper pies, seasonal specials, decent gastropub standards), but doesn't pretend you need to dress up or book three weeks ahead. Students, townies and the occasional academic all seem to coexist peacefully here, which tells you something about the place getting it right.
