Old Weavers House

Half-timbered medieval restaurant on the river where you'll eat well-prepared British classics in rooms that actually feel like they're from 1500-something.

You're walking down St Peter's Street and the Old Weavers House stops you dead—those jettied upper storeys, the wonky timber frame, the whole thing leaning slightly like it's had a few drinks. Inside, you're in proper Canterbury history: exposed beams, creaky floors, the River Stour lapping underneath. The dining rooms feel intimate without being cramped, and there's a real buzz without anyone shouting. The menu's straightforward British: duck, fish, pies, the sort of thing that works because they're not overthinking it. Service is genuinely warm—these lot seem to actually like working here. It's the kind of place where you feel like you've discovered something, even though everyone else clearly has too.
