You know exactly what you're getting when you push through those doors, but the setting here is genuinely special. This Georgian beauty sits proudly on Burgate, practically next to the Cathedral gates, and the building's original features haven't been completely Spoons-ed out of existence. The high ceilings and period windows give it more character than most of the chain's offerings. The usual suspects are all present and correct – decent ales, reliably cooked comfort food, and prices that won't leave you weeping into your pint. It's particularly handy for an early breakfast if you're staying in the city centre, or a late drink after everything else has shut up shop. The staff keep things moving efficiently even when it's rammed with tourists fresh off the Cathedral tour.
