Mermaid Quay

Walk down from the city centre towards the water and you'll hit Mermaid Quay, Cardiff's most energetic waterfront space. The whole thing's built around those gorgeous converted Victorian and Edwardian warehouses that line the Bay, now packed with independent shops, chain retailers, and proper decent food spots. It's busier than the city centre on weekends, but in a good way — the whole vibe changes when you're by the water, especially on a sunny afternoon when everyone's spilling out onto the pavements with a drink.
