Sainsbury's

Properly good in-store bakery turning out fresh bread, pastries and cakes daily. The croissants alone are worth the Trinity Street trek.

You wouldn't expect much from a supermarket bakery, but Sainsbury's on Trinity Street proves that assumption wrong every single day. Walk past the entrance and you'll catch the smell of proper fresh bread wafting out – they're baking throughout the day, not just reheating frozen nonsense. The croissants are genuinely excellent, with that proper buttery flake you'd pay twice as much for elsewhere in the city centre. Their sourdough loaves are decent too, and at under £2 a pop, they're a steal compared to the artisan bread shops. The morning pastries disappear fast, especially on weekends when the whole of Coventry seems to descend on Trinity Street. Smart locals know to grab their bits early before the lunch crowd arrives.
