You walk into what feels like someone's incredibly well-stocked games room, except there's a proper bar serving decent pints and cocktails. The shelves are packed with everything from classic Monopoly to obscure strategy games you've never heard of, and the staff actually know how to explain the rules without making you feel like a complete eejit. The crowd is a lovely mix of couples on dates, groups of mates, and the occasional lone wolf working through a solo game with their pint. The Harold's Cross location keeps things properly local rather than touristy, and the fact they're closed Mondays and Tuesdays means they're serious about creating the right atmosphere when they are open. It's the sort of place where you pop in for one drink and suddenly it's closing time because you've been engrossed in a heated game of Ticket to Ride.
