Iskender Turkish Kebab

You'll smell the charcoal and spices before you even spot this narrow shopfront on Talbot Street, just off O'Connell Street. The fluorescent lighting and basic plastic chairs might not win any design awards, but you're not here for atmosphere – you're here for some of the most authentic Turkish food in Dublin's city centre. The iskender kebab is the star of the show: tender lamb layered over crispy pita bread, drowning in rich tomato sauce and creamy yoghurt. The portions are absolutely massive – easily enough for two meals if you're not absolutely starving. The staff, who clearly know their way around a proper doner spit, are sound and efficient even during the late-night rush when half-cut punters pile in after the pubs close.
