Opium

Dim sum specialists serving authentic Cantonese small plates in a sleek, intimate setting that feels worlds away from Wexford Street.

You'll walk past this place a dozen times before realising it's exactly what Portobello's been missing. The black facade gives nothing away, but step inside and you're transported to a proper dim sum parlour with moody lighting and tables packed with locals working through bamboo steamers like they mean business. The har gow are spot-on – translucent parcels that don't fall apart when you pick them up, which is more than you can say for half the dim sum joints in town. The pork buns are pillowy perfection, and the duck pancakes arrive with enough hoisin to coat properly without drowning the bird. Skip the cocktails though – they're trying too hard when the food is already doing all the talking.
