Dundee Centre Beefeater

You'll find this sprawling Beefeater right on Discovery Quay, where the Tay meets Dundee's cultural quarter. Yes, it's a chain, but the riverside location gives it proper gravitas – floor-to-ceiling windows frame the V&A and RSS Discovery rather nicely. The menu sticks to what Beefeater does well: proper steaks cooked how you ask, decent Sunday roasts, and breakfast served until 11pm for those late finishes at the nearby hotels. The staff here seem to actually care, which isn't always a given with chains. Portions are generous without being silly, and at around £15-20 for mains, it won't leave you skint. The beer garden catches the evening sun beautifully in summer, making it a solid shout for visiting family or when you want reliable food without the faff of booking weeks ahead.
