Tanjore

Head down Clerk Street towards the Meadows and you'll find yourself in one of Edinburgh's most reliable Indian restaurants—the kind of place where the regulars know their order by heart and the staff remember your name. Tanjore does things properly: the dosas are crispy-edged and generously filled, the sambar has actual depth, and they're not trying to Anglicise everything on the menu for the sake of it. It's casual, reasonably priced, and genuinely good—no pretension, just solid South Indian cooking that keeps people coming back. The sort of neighbourhood restaurant that makes you realise Edinburgh's food scene is better than it sometimes gets credit for.
