George's Meeting House - JD Wetherspoon

Spoons does grand Victorian architecture with rock-bottom prices in a stunning former Methodist chapel on South Street.

You'll do a double-take walking into this soaring Victorian space – it's genuinely one of the most impressive Wetherspoons conversions you'll see. The original Methodist chapel bones are all still there: high ceilings, ornate stonework, and beautiful arched windows that flood the place with light. Yes, it's still very much a Spoons with the usual suspects nursing pints at 10am and students pre-loading before Timepiece, but the setting elevates everything. The usual Wetherspoons menu applies – decent enough fish and chips for under a tenner, proper breakfast that'll sort you right out, and pints that won't bankrupt you in the city centre. It gets properly rammed during Exeter Chiefs matches and uni term time, but there's enough space that you can usually find a corner to settle into.
