Head down Aldershot Road and you'll find yourself in the kind of local that actually feels like it belongs to Guildford rather than some chain template. The Cricketers pulls a reliable crowd of regulars, families and cricket enthusiasts (unsurprisingly), and there's a genuinely welcoming vibe whether you're popping in for a pint or settling in for Sunday lunch. The beer selection is taken seriously here, with rotating cask ales that appeal to proper ale drinkers, but it's not intimidatingly gastropubby about it. Food is straightforward pub fare done well — proper burgers, pies, fish and chips — the kind of stuff that makes sense with a pint. It's the sort of place where you won't feel out of place in muddy trainers, but equally, you could bring your parents for a civilised evening.
