You'll find yourself lingering longer than expected in this lovely museum café, where the scones are genuinely worth the trip and the coffee doesn't taste like an afterthought. Tucked inside Hitchin's charming local history museum, it's the sort of place where you pop in for a quick caffeine hit and end up staying for an hour, partly because the homemade Victoria sponge is excellent, partly because you've got distracted by the Roman pottery upstairs.
The setting feels wonderfully unhurried – think wooden tables, friendly volunteers, and the gentle hum of families exploring the galleries next door. It's not trying to be trendy, which is exactly why it works so well.
