The Wainwright Pub

Walk into The Wainwright and you'll clock the sort of place that doesn't need to try. Named after the legendary fell-walker and guidebook author, it's got the kind of understated character you'd expect from a Keswick institution—wood-lined walls, the hum of proper conversation, and a bar that serves people who've either just come off the fells or are about to head out. The real ales rotate nicely, and they take their pints seriously here. It's the pub you'd want to stumble into after a day on Catbells or Helvellyn, still muddy boots welcome.
