Sous Le Nez
Proper French bistro in a atmospheric basement with a wine list that'll make you forget about everything happening upstairs.
🍴 Frenchintimateromanticsophisticatedcosyrestaurant
You descend into what feels like a Parisian cave, all exposed brick and candlelit tables that make you instantly forget you're beneath Quebec Street. The 40-page wine list reads like a love letter to French viticulture, and the staff actually know their Burgundy from their Beaujolais – rare enough in Leeds to be genuinely exciting.
The French menu doesn't mess about with fusion nonsense or Instagram-friendly tweaks. This is bistro cooking done properly: rich, unfussy dishes that pair beautifully with whatever bottle you've been talked into from that encyclopaedic wine selection. It's the kind of place where you pop in for a quick glass and emerge three hours later, slightly wine-drunk and completely satisfied.
