The Cuthbert Brodrick occupies a stunning Victorian conversion on Portland Crescent, and while it's a Wetherspoon (so you know what you're getting), it's got considerably more character than your average boozer. The high ceilings and period features remind you this building has history, and the pub itself is always busy with a proper mix of after-work drinkers, students, and locals who've clocked that you can get a decent pint for under a tenner. Food's the standard Spoon's menu—nothing adventurous, but reliable and cheap. It's the kind of place where you'll bump into someone you know, or make new mates at the bar.
