Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral

You'll spot this concrete crown from across the city centre - the 'Paddy's Wigwam' as locals lovingly call it. Step inside and your eyes are immediately drawn upward to the extraordinary lantern of coloured glass that floods the circular space with jewel-like light. The brutalist exterior gives way to an unexpectedly warm interior where contemporary artworks sit alongside traditional Catholic iconography. The building feels refreshingly different from your typical Gothic cathedral. Everything curves and flows, from the sweeping concrete arches to the way light moves across the walls throughout the day. It's a proper piece of 1960s architectural ambition that actually worked.
