The Refreshment Rooms
Victorian railway refreshment room turned proper restaurant — honest food, real ale, and proper character across the water in Birkenhead.

You're stepping into a proper piece of history here. The Refreshment Rooms occupies an actual Victorian-era railway refreshment room on Bedford Road, and they've done the restoration with genuine respect — no Instagram nonsense, just good bones and better beer. The menu's straightforward stuff done well: proper pies, seasonal British cooking, real ales that actually mean something. It's the kind of place locals pile into on a Friday night, where the bar's buzzing but you can still have a conversation, and nobody's performing for their Stories. Birkenhead's got better bones than people from Liverpool often realise, and this place proves it.
