You walk into Da Mario and immediately get that feeling—this is a restaurant that knows exactly what it's doing and isn't interested in impressing anyone with tricks. The room's warm and unpretentious, the kind of place where the same tables have been coming back for decades. Gloucester Road's got plenty of options, but Da Mario's stayed relevant because the pasta is genuinely good, the risotto is creamy without being heavy, and they're not charging you £28 for a plate of cacio e pepe. It's the sort of neighbourhood Italian that South Kensington should have more of—honest, reasonably priced, and run by people who actually care about their food.
