Maison Bertaux

A proper French pâtisserie that's been doing its thing in Soho since 1871, turning out buttery croissants and elaborate cakes like it's second nature.

You'll find yourself squeezed onto Greek Street alongside half of Soho's creative types, clutching a cardboard box of pastries that smell like butter and ambition. The narrow shopfront barely hints at what's inside—display cases packed with Religieuses, Mille-feuilles, and fruit tarts that look almost too good to eat. It's chaotic and cramped in the best way, the sort of place where you're genuinely unsure whether you're about to have a transformative pastry experience or get elbowed by someone desperate for a pain au chocolat. Spoiler: usually both.
