Sebright Arms

A proper neighbourhood boozer on Coate Street with excellent cask ales, a proper kitchen, and the kind of crowd that actually lives round here.

Walk into the Sebright Arms and you'll clock immediately why this place has become the de facto local for Hackney Downs. It's got that rare thing: a real pub that doesn't feel like it's trying too hard. The bar staff know their stuff when it comes to beer—rotating cask selection done properly—and there's actual food coming out of the kitchen, not just crisps and pork scratchings. The room itself is unpretentious but thoughtfully done, with enough character that you'll want to linger over a pint rather than just pass through. Weekends get busy with the neighbourhood crowd, weeknights are more intimate. It's the kind of place where you bump into people you know and stay for three hours.
