You walk in and immediately get the sense this is the sort of place where locals have been nursing pints since before anyone thought to Instagram their drinks. The Captain Cook has that unpretentious, lived-in quality that's increasingly rare in southwest London—no exposed brick nonsense or craft cocktail menus getting in the way. It's the pub you'd want on your street: good ales on tap, food that doesn't take the piss (proper pub fare rather than reinvented classics), and a vibe that somehow manages to be both relaxed and buzzy depending on the night. Fulham's got plenty of posher options these days, but this is where you actually want to spend an evening.
