The Castle

You'll find yourself on one of West London's most chaotic streets, but step inside The Castle and suddenly you're in a proper local's refuge. It's the kind of place where the bartender knows half the regulars by name, the sort of pub that's been doing the same thing competently for years without needing to reinvent itself. The crowd is mixed—ageing Notting Hill residents, young professionals from the area, people actually from the neighbourhood—and there's something genuinely refreshing about that lack of pretence. The food is straightforward pub fare done well, and the drinks list doesn't overcomplicate things. On a weekend, it gets properly busy, but not in that suffocating, elbow-to-elbow Portobello Road way.
