You're walking up Haverstock Hill towards Belsize Park, and you duck into The George expecting standard chain pub fare—but it's got more character than you'd think. There's real wood panelling, decent lighting that doesn't feel fluorescent, and a crowd that's genuinely mixed: locals nursing espressos alongside people in for a proper drink. The kind of place where you can arrive alone and leave having chatted to someone about the neighbourhood. Food's solid if unambitious, but that's not really why you're here.
