The Hung Drawn & Quartered, EC3
A proper City boozer with real ales, Tudor beams and enough dark wood to make you feel like you've stepped back 500 years.
historictraditionalcosycasualpub
You're walking down Great Tower Street in the shadow of the old City walls when you spot this place—all half-timbered façade and small diamond-paned windows. Inside, it's properly atmospheric: low ceilings, creaky floorboards, real fireplaces and the kind of worn leather that only comes from centuries of bums on seats. The Hung Drawn & Quartered trades hard on its history (there's a reason for that gruesome name), and while it's undeniably touristy, it's also where actual City workers come for an after-work pint. The real ales rotate, the pies are decent, and you'll find a genuine mix of suits, tourists and locals all rubbing shoulders.
