The Mandrake

You'll walk into Newman Street and think you've stumbled into someone's darkly glamorous fever dream. The Mandrake is all low lighting, velvet, taxidermy, and an actual apothecary-meets-nightclub aesthetic that shouldn't work but absolutely does. This is a hotel bar and restaurant that doesn't feel like it's trying too hard—the excess is self-aware and fun, not showey. The drinks are proper (they take their cocktails seriously), the food lands somewhere between sophisticated comfort and adventurous, and the whole thing has the air of a members' club that happens to let normal people in. It's become exactly the kind of place Fitzrovia needed—a bit of edge, a lot of craft, and zero pretension masking as sophistication.
