Wong Kei

Legendarily brusque Cantonese institution where the staff's notorious rudeness is part of the charm and the roast duck is genuinely brilliant.

🍴 Cantonesequirkytraditionalbuzzycasualrestaurant
You know you're in for something special when the waiters openly roll their eyes at your order and practically throw your chopsticks at you. This four-storey Wardour Street institution has been serving proper Cantonese food with a side of attitude since the 1980s, and frankly, we wouldn't have it any other way. The drill is simple: queue outside (there's always a queue), get hustled upstairs to share a table with strangers, order quickly, and prepare for some of the best roast duck and char siu in Chinatown. The beef brisket noodles are outstanding, the portions are massive, and everything comes out faster than you can say 'more tea please'. Sure, the service is famously gruff, but that's precisely why tourists and locals alike keep coming back for more punishment and exceptional Cantonese classics.
