Walking up from Castle Square, you'll feel the weight of centuries as you climb towards the gatehouse. The castle unfolds across the hillside in sections—the inner bailey, the outer defences, the ruined chambers where medieval life unfolded. You can actually explore the grounds properly here, wandering between towers and ramparts rather than just peering through a fence. On a clear day, the views across the Shropshire countryside from the top are genuinely something. It's the sort of place that makes you understand why someone planted a castle exactly here, controlling the Teme valley.
