Lye Brook Falls

You'll earn this one properly. The 2.3-mile trail winds through proper Vermont woodland, crossing babbling streams and climbing steadily through birch and maple groves that absolutely explode with colour come autumn. It's not a gentle Sunday stroll – expect a decent workout and muddy boots, especially after rain. When you finally reach the falls, the payoff is spectacular. Lye Brook tumbles 125 feet down a rocky cliff face, creating a natural amphitheatre where you can sit on the rocks and feel properly accomplished. The spray catches the light beautifully, and in winter, the whole thing turns into an ice sculpture. Pack proper hiking boots and snacks – you'll want to linger.
