You walk into House on Heaton Road and immediately get why it's got such solid ratings—it's the kind of place that doesn't try too hard but somehow gets everything right. The bar staff know what they're doing, the drinks list isn't trying to be fancy for fancy's sake, and there's a real sense that actual humans from the area choose to spend their evenings here rather than anywhere else. It's got that particular Newcastle thing where friendly service doesn't mean saccharine, and the space feels genuinely welcoming without being twee.
