This McDonald's occupies prime real estate on one of Newcastle's most handsome streets, making it probably the poshest setting you'll ever eat a Big Mac in. The contrast is genuinely amusing: neoclassical columns outside, fluorescent lighting and red plastic inside. The location does all the heavy lifting here. You're right in the thick of things, surrounded by proper restaurants and fancy bars, but sometimes you just want chips that taste exactly like they did when you were twelve. It gets absolutely rammed on weekend nights with everyone from students to suited office workers making the same shameless pilgrimage. The staff deserve medals for dealing with the Friday night chaos.
