Premier Inn Nottingham City Centre (Goldsmith Street) hotel

You wouldn't normally write home about a Premier Inn restaurant, but the one on Goldsmith Street actually pulls its weight. The breakfast spread is proper - none of that continental nonsense - with decent sausages and eggs that aren't rubber. The evening menu sticks to safe territory with burgers, fish and chips, and curry, but it's executed better than you'd expect from a budget hotel chain. The location alone makes it worth considering when you're knackered from shopping or need somewhere reliable before a show. It's right in the thick of things but feels removed enough from the Friday night chaos. The staff genuinely seem to care, which counts for a lot when you're dealing with hangry tourists and business travellers.
