Wilford Claypit Nature Reserve
A working nature reserve where you can actually spot newts, dragonflies and rare birds without leaving West Bridgford.

Head down Landmere Lane and you'll find yourself in proper countryside, despite being minutes from the suburbs. Wilford Claypit is a former industrial site that's been allowed to rewild itself into something genuinely special—the water's deep, the banks are steep, and you get the sense you're somewhere nature's really taken over. It's managed by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, so there's actual conservation happening here, not just a manicured park. Bring binoculars and patience, and you might clock great crested newts, emperor dragonflies, or if you're lucky, visiting herons. The paths can be muddy and uneven, so proper boots are essential.
