The Fishermans Arms
Proper Barbican boozer where locals and tourists actually drink together without the usual awkwardness.
traditionalrelaxedcasualhistoricpub
You'll find this place tucked down Lambhay Street, just a stone's throw from the Barbican's tourist trail but thankfully free from the sanitised pub chain feel that's infected too much of the waterfront. The Fishermans Arms feels properly lived-in, with locals who've been propping up the bar since the '80s happily rubbing shoulders with visitors who've stumbled in after wandering the historic quarter.
The beer selection's solid without being showy, and they do decent pub grub that won't break the bank. What really works here is the atmosphere – it's got that rare quality of feeling authentically Plymouth without trying too hard. The kind of place where you pop in for one pint and somehow end up closing the place down on a Friday night.
