The Twelve Tellers

Former Lloyds bank turned Wetherspoons with original vault and banking hall grandeur intact.

You're drinking pints where people once counted pounds. This magnificent Victorian banking hall on Church Street keeps its original coffered ceiling, marble columns, and that properly imposing atmosphere that only comes from genuine period features. The old Lloyds vault door still stands proud, now guarding nothing more dangerous than the gents' toilets. Yes, it's a Spoons, but it's arguably Preston's most spectacular one. The usual suspects are all here – curry club on Thursdays, cheap pints that won't bankrupt you, and that reliable menu that does exactly what it says. The staff move with practiced efficiency around the soaring space, and you'll find everyone from UCLan students stretching their loans to office workers grabbing quick lunches between the grand pillars. It's not trying to be anything other than what it is, but when 'what it is' happens to be housed in one of Preston's finest interiors, that works perfectly well.
