North Street Fisheries

You'll find yourself on North Street heading towards the cathedral, and suddenly you're standing in front of a place that does one thing brilliantly: fish and chips that doesn't pretend to be anything else. The queue at lunchtime tells you everything—locals know what's up. Walk in and you're met with that genuine chippy smell, the kind that means the oil's clean and the fish is fresh. It's stripped-back, no-nonsense stuff: battered cod that's crispy outside, flaky within, chips that are actually cooked properly. You grab your paper-wrapped parcel and either eat it on a bench overlooking the Ure or take it home. That's the Ripon way.
