You descend into the Albert Hotel on Smithfield Road and find yourself in a basement bar that actually feels intentional rather than accidental. The Alb takes cocktails seriously without the pretension that kills half the bars in town. The bartenders know what they're doing, the drinks list isn't written in riddles, and you'll actually want to sit there for more than one round. It's become the sort of place where people on Shrewsbury's north side don't mind heading into the centre for, which says something.
