The interior is understated in that way proper Japanese restaurants do best – clean lines, wooden tables, and zero gimmicks. What matters here is what's coming out of the kitchen, and they're not playing around. The sushi is genuinely good – fresh fish that actually tastes like it came from the sea rather than a packet, rice with the right texture, and proper knife work that shows they know what they're doing. Their hot dishes hold their own too, with katsu that's properly crispy and ramen that doesn't taste like it came from a packet. At around £15-25 for mains, it's not cheap, but you're paying for the real deal rather than the usual British-Japanese mashup that passes for authentic elsewhere.
