You'll either love the full-on Middle-earth commitment or find it all a bit much, but there's no denying The Hobbit does themed drinking properly. Tucked along Bevois Valley Road, this isn't some half-hearted nod to fantasy – we're talking different themed rooms, Tolkien quotes on the walls, and staff who actually know their Shire from their Rohan. The beer selection's solid enough to keep you interested beyond the novelty, and the crowd's a proper mix of students, locals, and the occasional hen do posing with the themed décor. It gets properly busy at weekends, so rock up early if you want to bag one of the cosy nooks. Fair warning: the toilets are an experience in themselves.
