Pen & Parchment
Greene King stalwart right by the river with proper pub charm, solid ales and food that doesn't pretend to be something it's not.

You're standing at Bridge Foot, one of Stratford's most picturesque corners, and the Pen & Parchment sits exactly where it should—close enough to the Avon that you can practically smell the water. It's a proper Greene King operation, which means consistency and competence rather than fireworks, but there's real comfort in that. The interior feels like an old English pub should: low beams, creaky floorboards, the kind of place where locals prop up the bar without ceremony. The riverside location pulls in plenty of tourists, sure, but it never feels rammed or desperate about it. You'll find decent ales on tap, uncomplicated pub food (fish and chips, pies, that sort of thing), and staff who move at a civilised pace. It's not trying to be the most interesting pub in Stratford, which is oddly why it works.
