You walk into Tap & Barrel and immediately clock it's the sort of place where regulars have their usual spot and the staff remember your name. It's tucked away on Trench Road in that quieter part of town, away from the bustle, which somehow makes it feel more genuine. The real draw here is the drinks – they take their beer and cider selection seriously, rotating taps mean there's usually something new to try, and they're not pretentious about it either. The crowd's a proper mix: blokes watching the match, groups catching up over a pint, the odd solo drinker at the bar. It's unpretentious enough that you can rock up in your work gear, but it's clearly looked after. Four-point-one stars from locals tells you it's doing something right.
