Smokehouse
American-style BBQ done properly with proper low-and-slow cooking and a decent bourbon selection to match.
🍴 American BBQcasualindustrialrelaxedrusticrestaurant
You walk down Wood Street and the smell hits you before you even see the sign – proper barbecue smoke drifting from what used to be just another shopfront in the city centre. Inside, it's all exposed brick and industrial fixtures, but warm enough that you actually want to linger over your pint rather than bolt for the door.
The brisket here is the real deal – they've clearly put the hours in getting their smoker right, and it shows in every tender, smoky bite. The pulled pork's equally impressive, and they don't mess about with portion sizes either. Pair it with their mac and cheese (properly indulgent) and a bourbon from their surprisingly decent selection. Sure, it's not cheap for Wakefield, but when the alternative is another chain pub doing 'American-style' food from a microwave, you'll gladly pay the extra tenner.
