The Moon Under Water - JD Wetherspoon

Sprawling Wetherspoons in a grand Victorian bank building with decent grub and proper cheap pints in the city centre.

You'll find this Spoons occupying what used to be the grand Lloyds Bank building on Lichfield Street, and the high ceilings and ornate features still give it a bit of gravitas despite the chain pub makeover. The usual Wetherspoons formula applies – dirt cheap drinks, surprisingly decent food that arrives faster than it should, and a crowd that ranges from office workers grabbing lunch to students pre-loading before hitting the town centre. The beer garden out back is a proper suntrap when the weather's decent, and unlike some Spoons, this one doesn't feel completely soulless thanks to those original Victorian features. Yes, it's predictable, but when you want a £2 pint and a curry for under a tenner in the heart of Wolverhampton, it does exactly what it says on the tin.
